The media in the Pacific has appointed a formidable new board to represent them.
The new board sees Veteran and outspoken Tongan Journalist, Kalafi Moala replacing National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Managing Director, Kora Nou, as President. Leilani Reklai of Palau was elected Vice President, Robert Iroga of Solomon Islands continues as the Digital Media Representative on the Board, Katalina Tohi continues as Radio Rep, Fred Wesley continues as the Print Rep, while Esther Pavihi of Niue was appointed Television Rep, and Neville Choi of the MCPNG was appointed as the National Media Association Representative on the PINA Board.
Many in the region's media have applauded the composition of the new PINA board, saying it is both more gender, and regionally representative of Pacific media.
President Kalafi Moala said upon being elected, that he would be looking at assessing where PINA is and look at whether it needs a new focus and mission.
The PINA Board election was the main event rounding off the 7th Pacific Media Summit which was hosted in Niue.
The three-day summit was preceeded by two days of pre-summit workshops aimed strengthening National Media Associations in the Pacific, alongside a pre-summit workshop for Women In Media, a new growing movement in countries in the region.
