Media Council announces PNG Media Summit Sponsors
PORT MORESBY, 24 April, 2026 - The 2026 PNG Media Summit has received a significant boost with the announcement of major corporate and government sponsorship.
Organised by Women in Media PNG (WiMPNG), to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on May 3), the event is set for Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Crown Hotel in Port Moresby.
The event has secured a powerhouse line-up of sponsors dedicated to regional transparency and media development in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific:
· Platinum Sponsor: Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) has stepped in as the lead partner, signalling the private sector’s commitment to a free and fair media environment.
· Gold Sponsor: The PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy (PNGCORE) have come on board as Gold Sponsor.
· Silver Sponsors: Simberi Gold Company Ltd and the Department of Prime Minister have joined as key supporters, bridging the gap between industry, government, and media leadership.
MCPNG President Mr. Neville Choi described the support as a commitment to ensure that the public receives credible information through a well-supported press.
The summit will feature a prestigious line up, including PINA President Kalafi Moala, representatives from The Pacific Community (SPC), and international management from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and key speakers from stakeholder such as the Department of Information, Communication and Technology, National Information, Communication and Technology, the PNG Electoral Commission, Bank of PNG as well as representatives from development partners.
These partnerships will allow for a critical dialogue on the summit theme: “Press Freedom through Human Rights, Security & Innovation – Facts & Verification to NGE2027 & Beyond”.
Discussion on vital regional issues, including:
· The Parliamentary Inquiry Report: A deep dive into 40 recommendations, including the proposed Freedom of Press Act.
· NGE2027 Readiness: Equipping Pacific practitioners with the innovation and security needed to report on upcoming national elections without fear.
· Regional Solidarity: Hosting adjunct events to strengthen the collective Pacific media voice.
